I give Serenity a lot of flak for losing things or overlooking items that seem obvious to me. She will say, "I can't find my sunglasses," and I’ll smugly point them out: "Oh, well, they're right here in front of you."
I can be pretty graceless at times. I’m working on it.
But now, the shoe is on the other foot. Or off it, because I have fully lost my good work boots—the ones that keep the water out when the heavy dew sets in. Or after a rain has just fallen. The ones that I would put on when I know the job is gonna be long and dirty.
I cannot, for the life of me, figure out where I left the darn things. It is driving me crazy. They aren't in any of the usual spots. As far as I can tell, someone put them on, walked off, and is somewhere dry and happy right now. You can't be an ass about these things when you’re sitting pretty, your day will come. Just be gracious all the time.
Update — I finally figured out that I left them on the porch one evening and the puppy ran off with them. I tracked down one of the boots in the middle of the field a couple hundred yards from our house. It was in fine condition but the other one is still missing.
I guess I’ll have this one half-chewed boot to keep as a reminder not to find humor in someone else’s small misfortune.
