I think with a lot of things—maybe even most things—we get hung up on the wrong question.
We ask or at least I do as often as not, "Can I do it?" I worry about whether I am capable. I look at this thing or that thing and wonder if I have the tools and the know-how.
But the real question usually isn't about my ability or lack there-of. It isn’t about whether I can do it.
The question is: Do I want to do it?
It’s not a matter of skill. It’s a matter of desire. Discipline. Will.
Most of the time, I can do the thing. The question is not about can I do it — the question is about whether I want to sweat enough to get the thing done.
